This statement tribal bracelet is made of "vegetable ivory" plaques also known as Tagua . It comes from the palm tree Phytelephas aequatorialis, and grows in the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador.
It is known as vegetable ivory because the tree produces a nut which resemblance with the animal ivory is so close that not even an expert can tells the difference.
This plant is saving the lives of elephants and rhinos unfairly hunted a cause of its ivory, is protecting the Amazon native trees, because the palm tree is harvested and preserved against deforestation and is providing ecofriendly jobs to hundreds of artisan families in Ecuador.
