SPINEY SACRED ORANGE SHELL AND TURQUOISES SET WITH TOASTED AGATE

This necklace has been called by its designer : "Happiness in bloom" because of the happy summery colors the sets have.

The central piece is a big flower handcarved from Spiney shell orange variety also called: Spondylus princeps, due the shell have been worn only from royalty in Prehispanic times. On top you can see more thick plaques of the same shell mixed with real turquoise beads and agate all over. At the top the necklace ends with a convenient toggle clasp in plated silver.

For the person who have not knowledge about spiney shell, it is a ritual and sacred shell find in burials of prehispanic rich people, IT IS VERY RARE AND SCARCE, has to be captured by free diving in Southern Pacific the piece was acquired in 2010. The spiney oysters where declared as endangered specie and its capture is banned since 2011, this is one of the last spiney oyster, legally acquired you will find in the market. I am not bringing Spiney Oyster again to the States and this is one of my last pieces.

It is very delicate and difficult to work with, for produce a pendant flower of 4 inches like the one featured here, at least 10 shells must to be sacrificed. Please surf in the web and you will find just one authentic Spondylus or spiney shell without any work is sold for $20 and up. A pendant mounted in silver is around $500 and a pendant without silver is $90 and up. A tiny spiney oyster earrings mounted in silver is $50 and up.

This necklace and matching earrings are fairly good priced.

The work came with a card attached with a gold string specifying the name of this unique piece and the sign of its designer handwritten in gold or silver pen.
