One plant located in the Ecuadorian, Colombian and Peruvian forests called "Tagua" or the vegetal Ivory is being used as a substitute for the animal Ivory and is so close to the real ivory that not even the experts can tell the difference between one and other, the Tagua three which can produce yearly crops is saving the life of the most antique and big land mammal facing the danger of extinction.
A single female Tagua palm may produce up to <></>50 pounds of nuts in a year, that's roughly the amount of ivory in an average African elephant tusk. The elephant, however, yields its ivory only once while the palm produces nuts year after year.
